The major objective of the study was to review the current performance of the textile sector in India with a close look towards its contribution to GDP, exports and employment. It also provides greater insight into the dismantling of the quota regime i.e. the Multi fiber agreement and its impact on the Indian textile sector. The study highlights the roles of both government and industry to make textile industry competitive globally and suggestions have been put forth to convert the challenges into opportunities.
